Our Programs

Helping Children Reach Their Potential

Family Development Center uses the Relief Nursery Therapeutic Model, providing a unique combination of individualized classroom and home-based developmental experiences for children 0-5 years of age.  All aspects of the program focus on the specific issues of children from multi-stressed families who have experienced trauma, abuse, stress, or are at-risk for such experiences.  Utilizing research-based developmentally appropriate practices with a focus on the importance of relationships, our Therapeutic Programs facilitates learning experiences and healing emotional support for these children and adults.  Each teacher assumes the role of both classroom teacher and family support home visitor.  This allows them to establish effective and supportive relationships with the children and the parents.  Staff are attentive to providing this support through consistent interactions, as well as being available for immediate response in times of crisis.

Therapeutic Center Based Program

Family Development Center provides therapeutic preschool classes for children 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Our classes help children heal from trauma, build resiliency and grow to their full potential. Our staff is highly trained and begin by fostering relationships that promote long term trust, growth and development - with the children and their families. Class time is integrated with home visits, parent education, and individualized goals for both children and families.

Home Visitation

Home Visitation

Our Home Based services are designed to support and encourage families as they make positive changes. This is done in a variety of ways that best meet the individual needs of families and children. Home visits focus on child development, positive parenting, child safety, and community resources. We strive to keep children safe and strengthen families through parent education, activities, resources and referrals.

Parent Education

All parents of the children enrolled at Family Development Center undergo intensive parenting education. They learn self-responsibility, conflict resolution, appropriate and healthy non-physical discipline, age appropriate expectations, parent-child attachment, and child development. Parents also receive the support of other parents enrolled in services.

Infant Home Base

Our Infant Home Based Service is designed to support and strengthen families through weekly home visits. This program focuses on early attachment and bonding as well as providing appropriate developmental information. By providing resources, referrals, and education within the home environment, we help provide successful strategies to keep children safe and families together.

Our staff completes over 3,400 home visits per year.
